Minimalism
Minimalism is an art movement that began in the United States the 1960's. This movement was made to combat the very personal nature of persisting American art. Minimalism focuses on the artwork itself and adds noting extra to its pieces (Minimalism). Minimalism uses hard edge, linear styles of painting in order to simplify the artworks (Minimalism). the untitled picture below is a piece of artwork by Donald Judd that was made in 1978. It is a very simple piece consisting of straight and slanted black lines. The painting has absolutely no underlying meaning and shows nothing personal about the artist himself. The piece is minimal in the sense that is has nothing more than visual appeal.
