Realism
Realism is a style of art that emerged in the 19th century. It focused mainly on depicting things in life in a realistic manner and as they were seen by the human eye. The movement also put a lot of emphasis on the subject of the artwork and but less detail and color into the background (The Definitive). The artists wanted the primary subject to be the main point on interest for viewers. A Spilled Bag of Cherries by Antoine Vollon is a painting that exemplifies the style of realistic art. The bag of cherries is quite clearly the focal point of the artwork and it has a dominating presence in the piece. The painting also has almost no background detail because Vollon did not want the background images to take any attention away from the bag of cherries.
